Livable Luxury

Dwellings on Madison is a nationally recognized interior design firm for good reason. The team, led by Grace Jones, owner and lead creative designer, has an uncanny ability to capture each client’s personality and translate that into beautiful design. The end product is always a one-of-a-kind space that is as unique as each client.

“The key is clear communication,” says Jones. “From start to finish, the project is about the client’s vision. The biggest compliment is when the client sees the completed project and says, ‘Wow, this is me!’ ”

Jones is passionate about creating livable luxury – a blend of high-end finishes, exotic materials and timeless furnishings. Since launching her career more than 25 years ago, Jones has put a chic continental spin on her hallmark Hollywood Regency style, transforming homes for an impressive client list.

Most recently, Dwellings has stepped into the spotlight for work on Scott and Heidi Bray’s Fulton Manor, a gorgeous 5,500-square-foot mansion built by Gustin Construction in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. While designing this home, Jones embraced the growing trend of proudly displaying building materials other builders try to conceal.

“It’s about adding a raw, historic look to this most thoughtfully designed home. It’s about selecting pieces that are as much about function as style,” Jones says. “While developing this home, I developed a new style, French Industrial. It became the driving force in building this home full of partly polished metals, exposed bricks, roughly finished and waxed woods, vintage marbles, open rafters and a commitment to using only materials with history, personality and patina. The furniture is a clever mixture of elegance and machinery.”

The exterior is a French Chateau manor house with carriage house doors, solid copper roof finials, black iron windows, mortar covered bricks and rough cedar accents. Visitors are greeted in the entry by a remarkable barreled ceiling and hand-scraped hardwood floors that look elegantly reclaimed. The master suite has its own private foyer and enjoys lavish moldings and views, as does the grand bath with a pair of 1930s’ vintage mirrored French doors behind the Parisian soaking tub and a black crystal chandelier.
