Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is just one of the many procedures offered by Kuy Plastic Surgery and Swiss Medispa.  This cutting-edge procedure utilizes a patient’s own blood to improve damaged skin. The result is healthier, rejuvenated skin. A small sample of blood is drawn and from there the platelets are isolated. Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting and healing process. When platelet rich plasma is injected into a damaged area of the skin, it initially causes mild inflammation. However, it then triggers a healing process, releasing enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair damaged areas. Ultimately, new collagen begins to appear. As the collagen matures, it shrinks and the damaged area is tightened and strengthened. When treating patients who have skin that has been damaged by the sun or time, the procedure results in healthier and younger looking skin. It is most often utilized to rejuvenate damaged skin around the eyes, cheeks, mid-face, neck, jawline, chest and décolletage, back of hands and arms and lips.

The technique is not new. The approach has been used for over 20 years across medical specialties, including cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, podiatry, ENT, neurosurgery, dental and maxillofacial surgery, urology, dermatology and ophthalmology. Its usage for cosmetic surgery and skin rejuvenation began to emerge in 2004 in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. A Swiss made PRP system is used at Kuy Plastic Surgery.

PRP is showing significant benefits in three primary areas. Most recently, research has shown that PRP is resulting in significant improvements for skin quality and appearance, specifically skin texture, pores and fine lines. For that reason, the micro-needling procedure is combined with the PRP procedure, as it allows optimal regeneration and healing of the skin. PRP can also enhance dermal filler injections. By adding PRP injections, patients can boost the effect of wrinkle-filling.

PRP can also optimize fat transfer procedures. Research has shown that by injecting PRP into the fat cells, a higher percentage of fat cells survive the transfer. It can also be used to help with wound healing like a facelift operation, and it’s also used like a glue to make a serum. When it’s injected during a face lift, there is better healing and less swelling.

PRP is safe and effective for almost all skin tones, as a patient’s own enriched plasma is utilized. The full procedure requires minimal time, no more than an hour, and two to three visits are generally sufficient to achieve desired results. It is offered at Dr Kuy’s office daily, making it most accessible and convenient. Annual treatments will serve to boost and maintain the results.
