A More Accessible Approach to Mental Healthcare

According to a 2016 Kaiser Family Foundation study, 73 percent of Americans consider a lack of access to mental healthcare a major problem. Many patients give up before receiving any treatment after finding the process too confusing or too limited. It can take several weeks to get an appointment with a mental health counselor, and even longer for a psychiatric evaluation. While local emergency rooms can provide acute care in a mental health emergency, affiliated hospitals are often not equipped to handle ongoing care or provide appropriate referrals. The Lindner Center of HOPE is stepping in to make the process of navigating the psychiatric healthcare landscape more efficient and more effective, with the launch of its new Rapid Access Service (RAS).

Teeing Off For Sight: Fundraiser’s Impact Never Fades

Teeing Off For Sight, The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation’s primary fundraising effort for its community outreach program, netted more than $30,000 this year that will help underwrite vision clinic expansions, including the purchase of equipment, staffing, and clinic operating expenses. A total of 88 golfers participated in the event, held June 16 at the Blue Ash Golf Course. Fifth Third Bank was the presenting sponsor. Taking first place was Volpenhein Brothers Electric. Second-place honors went to St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

A Brighter Future

The future looked a little brighter on April 5 when 10 students received scholarships at this year’s Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award Program, hosted by the Warren County Educational Services Center. The group of dedicated, hard-working students from districts throughout Warren County were honored at a luncheon attended by educators and local elected officials. It was sponsored by the Greater Ohio Virtual School.
